Inside Electric Bull: Chef Behind Popular Taco Spot Brings Steakhouse To Virginia Hometown

An award-winning chef is coming back home to bring a new steakhouse in Virginia.

Chef Victor Albisu, the man behind the wildly popular Taco Bamba, is bringing Electric Bull, a boutique steakhouse, to his hometown this summer, doors down from Taco Bamba, the "cult favorite taqueria and mezcal bar."

The new location will open at 176 Maple Ave. in Vienna this summer.

"Electric Bull will build on Albisu’s legacy as an award-winning steakhouse chef as the former executive chef of BLT Steak and the chef/owner of Del Campo, his Argentine grill named a 2013 Restaurant of the Year by Esquire," an announcement for the new eatery stated.

The 2,500-square-foot restaurant will feature 80 seats, a full-service bar, and a cozy front patio, all designed by Peter Hapstak, who also created Taco Bamba’s look.

However, Electric Bull won’t stop at serving sizzling steaks on-site.

A butcher counter at the restaurant will let customers take the magic home with premium cuts of meat, marinades, and prepared sides.

“My upbringing in a Latin butcher shop, learning the craft from Argentinean butchers, has been a cornerstone to my culinary career,” Albisu said.

Electric Bull will showcase everything from crudos and ceviches to Albisu’s iconic rolled skirt steak—yes, the same one that took down Bobby Flay on his own cooking show.

"The dining room will be a lunch and dinner destination, and we’ll have a small butcher counter for guests to order and pick up meats and accompaniments for nights when they want to grill at home, as I often do," the chef said.

Fans of Albisu’s cooking have a lot to look forward to.

The menu will feature both traditional and non-traditional steakhouse cuts, along with options like lamb ribs, house-made chorizo, and a decadent fugazetta pizza, an Argentine favorite loaded with caramelized onions and mozzarella.

Albisu, who has received accolades like Chef of the Year from the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington and two James Beard nominations, said the new steakhouse is a way to bring his culinary journey full circle.

"I’m ready to challenge expectations for what a neighborhood steakhouse can be, and I believe Vienna is the perfect place to do it," the chef added.

"It’s been home to my family and my businesses for more than 15 years."
